Pondering this evening, on those pets we say goodbye to every day. While working at a Veterinary clinic most days, we see euthanasia every day. For 13 years, I struggle each and every time we are forced to say goodbye to one of our beloved friends. SImply put, it breaks my heart. This task is never easy, as they are like family to all of us. No matter how we might try to prepare ourselves for that dreadful day....nothing ever makes the pain easier to handle. Once told by a client of ours, as loyal pet owners that we all are, "the one last loving thing we can do for our animals, is to let go as we say goodbye". This in itself is a tough road to follow. We often times find ourselves holding on. In such a way to preserve our dearest furry companions. Regardless of what they are going through, we as pet owners can be very selfish. I have been there, and faced with those circumstances. I am as guilty as everyone else. Sometimes we just have to let go, bear the pain and heart ache, all in order to seal a chapter. There is always new hope and a new day. Many memories cherished. We never have to say goodbye, because in the end, it is just a new beginning. When our animals are suffering or ill, they hurt, too. For us to hang on is not fair for them, no matter the circumstance. So friends, please remember, that nothing is forever in the physical sense. It is memories and reflections that we can rely on throughout our own personal journeys. 1 Comment |
