Interesting news, as referenced by Web MD. Some dogs can be trained to sniff out lung cancer, on humans breath. Now, we all know dogs have been used to smell out many thins, but this takes on a whole new level. By detecting the cancer on the breath of human counter parts, these trained dogs can save lives, yet again. CT scans and xrays can be used to diagnose cancer, however, early detection can mean the difference between a full chance of recovery and a life long battle.

Among other issues our economy faces, our dogs are becoming more and more prone to catching the highly contagious Parvo Virus. It has been recorded, that the increase in this horrible virus, has claimed nearly double  lives, compared to recent years. It is important to keep your pets up - to - date on Vaccinations, that can help prevent the spread of Parvo. The common Distemper or DHPP, 5 in one or 7 in one vaccination helps deter this bad case of Parvo. Understanding the disease is relatively simple. If you are social with your dog by taking them to dog parks, groomers, pet stores, or kennels, your pet is at a greater risk. The Parvo Virus is highly contagious, and can be active in the soil or ground for many years. Meaning, your pet can pick it up, long after the exposure has occurred. The virus is spread through contact, and can live on objects for months, even years. If your pet has contacted Parvo, the common incubation period, before showing symptoms is 7 to 10 days. Symptoms such as vomitting, diarrhea, lethargy, blood
in stool or vomit, decreased thirst or appetite, can all be related to Parvo. The cost of treating parvo is expensive, ranging from $800 - $2000, depending on the severity of the case. The course of treatment can be horrifying and unbearable for some. Keep in mind, that Parvo can be deadly, if not treated.  In the end, it is best to make sure your pet is well vaccinated.

Today, was a fantastic endeavor. We were very fortunate to have been called in to help a local citizen, undergoing some medical needs. Our team has offered to help provide temporary care for 5 animals. It was a huge task, greater than anticipated. The animals are all doing well! We are hopingto adjust diets and get them all back to doing fantastic. All in time to be united again with their rightful Owner. Just one of the many reasons, we do what we do. A true compassion for the public, and a place to turn for the pets in need. Today was truly a wonderful day! A huge Thank You goes out to all involved!

Though, it is true, this dog is simply amazing. This is a story we felt compelled to share, as it shows the courage and strength of a dog, left with no hope of survival. Naki'o, a survinor, Left abandoned by his family in a forclosed home during harsh winter months. This poor pup managed to step into a cold puddle, all four of his paws freezing to ice. Bless his heart. He was rescued, barely alive, starving and having 4 frost bitten paws. Ultimately, his paws had to be amputated. His angel, a Veterinary Technician took him as her own, Carried him every where, to potty, to play, andnever once gave up hope. Naki'o was far from being a normal dog. He required attention that some owners could not or would not invest in. Over time, the Technicial who adopted Naki'o, found a company to develop custom orthodics just for him. Originally fit with only 2 new paws, the company donated the other 2, making a complete custom fit. Finally, Naki'o could enjoy his life, running, playing, jumping, just like a normal dog. Amazingly, he adjusted well to the fit, almost instantly. Watch his progress as he continues his journey!

You read it right! This poor pup, found wandering in Seattle, went days with a jar stuck on his head. With no way to see, hear or smell and unable to eat. Left blindly pacing about, until two bystanders spotted the critter while working in their yard, mid-day. It was clear the pup had gone days without food as you could see his ribs beneath the fur. Courageously, the two men were able  to free the jar from the coyotes head! The pup quickly, and almost happily bolted into the nearby thicket!

Yes, It is true!!

A glowing beagle is definitely on the list of things we never expected to see.

But South Korean scientists seem to have made it a reality in hopes of finding cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinsons. A glowing beagle is definitely on the list of things we never expected to see.

But South Korean scientists seem to have made it a reality in hopes of finding cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, according to Reuters. While genetically engineering a puppy to glow is controversial to say the least, the project aims to help researchers identify possible side-effects of certain treatments that could occur in humans.

Tegon, as the pup is called, may hold the key to many human diseases, as the glow-in-the-dark property can be controlled with the addition of an antibiotic called doxycycline.

ByeongChun Lee, a co-author of the paper on Tegon that will appear in the journal Genesistold Discovery News that the gene triggers a real glow under UV light. Without UV light, Lee told Discovery that you can still see a slightly yellow glow in the dog's skin.

The practical application of the ability to make the dog glow helps to identify possible complications from diseases, without harming the dog.

As I sit here, looking at this incredible news article..  I find myself simply awe struck. At 13 years old, a barely teenage boy takes business to an extreme. He decided while shopping with his family one day, that dog toys are just too expensive and set out to make his own. WOW! And boy does he make them! With a couple of tennis balls, some fleece, rope and a drill press, this kid went to town. Now, he sees a potential business growing out of one small idea... That idea came from a single trip to the local pet store! Impressive. I wish my kids had that much ambition and drive.

Apparently, as the story goes, the Owner of the Wildlife Sanctuary in Ohio, opened the gates and cages of over 60 wild animals. Some endangered or rare. Lions, tigers, bears, monkeys and even a giraffe were running loose in the neighborhoods. Across busy freeways, near schools, in communities. The Owner, Terry Thompson, had released all of the creatures, just before committing suicide. Within the last few weeks, he had been released from prison on an unrelated charge and his wife had recently left him. There are still many unanswered questions. Officers have found and destroyed most of the animals, with the exception of one monkey that is still unaccounted for.
